Week 6 Top Plays and Fades

It’s Week 6 already in the NFL and the fantasy season is already a third of the way over. At this point in the season, it is easy to get caught up in take lock, and continue to believe things that we thought were true at the beginning of the season, but might not be anymore. A few examples of this might be thinking that Derrick Henry or Austin Ekeler aren’t good anymore, just because they had bad starts to the season. While it is important to look at players’ production for the whole season, be careful not to discount a recent hot or cold streak when considering players’ value.

Here at Go For Two, we’ve split players into a few different categories. We’ll give you a Go For Two option, a field goal play, and a turnover on downs. The Go For Two option is a player that is rostered in very few leagues, but has the potential to blow up and win you the week. This is a player that you start and bask in the glory when they go off. The field goal option is a player that is a borderline start, but we are giving you confidence this week. Start them and enjoy the points that you collect. The turnover on downs player is a highly rostered player who is set up to disappoint you. Do what you can to avoid a turnover on downs.

Field Goal Plays

Romeo Doubs, WR (GB) – Like many rookie receivers, Doubs has had an up and down season. There has been plenty of hype and signs of a breakout, but he has also lacked the consistency needed to make him a true lock for your fantasy lineups. Last week Doubs had a forgettable game against a good NY Giants secondary, going for 29 yards on 3 catches. That burned a lot of people who started him, but I want to give you confidence to put him back in your starting lineup. The Packers are playing against the Jets at home this week. Rookie Sauce Gardner has been an incredible shutdown corner for the Jets this year, and will likely cover Allen Lazard for large portions of the game. This should open up opportunities for Doubs as he will be Rodgers most reliable option that will be open. The Packers are also playing at home, and coming off a loss, will want to prove they are still at the top of the class in the NFC. Expect the Packers to put up lots of points this week, with Doubs helping them do that. – Derek

Christian Kirk, WR (JAX)- After a red hot start to the season, Christian Kirk has been extremely disappointing over the last 2 weeks. As a result, many may be wondering if it is time to bench him. The short answer is no. At the end of the day, he remains the top option on an ascending Jaguars offense, and the absence of Marvin Jones ( not to mention Zay Jones is hobbled as well) should free up even more opportunity for the 5th year wideout. The squeaky wheel narrative is in play as well, as the coaching staff has repeatedly gone out of their way to say that he needs to be more involved with the gameplan moving forward. Not to mention the Colts have a pass funnel, zone-heavy defense that  can bleed receptions to opposing receivers and ranks just 21st in efficiency according to Football Outsiders, and the stars are aligning for Kirk to have a big day. Fire him up as an upside WR2. – Ryan

Turnover on Downs

Najee Harris, RB (PIT) – When I suggested that you avoid Najee in the draft, I figured he would be a disappointment, but I never thought he would be this bad. Najee has yet to crack 12 points this year in Half PPR scoring, despite seeing strong volume in each game. That is not good enough for someone you had to draft in the first or early second round of your draft. This week he gets to face the impenetrable Tampa Bay run defense who are currently the second best against fantasy RBs. Najee should be able to get enough touches to give you a floor of 5 points, but his chances at a touchdown are small, and his ceiling in non-existant. If you can avoid starting Najee this week, do it.- Derek

James Robinson, RB (JAX)- Another Jaguar coming off back to back duds after a red hot start, but this cold streak feels more legitimate. I give Robinson all the credit in the world for even coming back at all following a devastating achilles injury, but fact is, he has been generally inefficient of late, leaving a lot of yards on table. Travis Etienne is also nipping at his heels, and it is only a matter of time before there is a changing of the guard in this backfield. Not to mention the Colts have a stout run defense that is currently 2nd in DVOA ( Football Outsiders), and this is shaping up to be another disappointing week for Robinson managers, It feels as if he should be treated more like a TD-dependent RB3/flex rather than the locked-in RB2 he was just a few weeks ago.- Ryan

Go for Two Option

Zach Gentry, TE (PIT)- If you are in the business of streaming tight ends this week, Gentry isn’t the worst option. While I firmly believe he is Just A Guy, fact remains he will be inserted into a near every-down role given the absence of Pat Freiermuth. This is a Steelers offense that tends to incorporate tight ends into their offense rather heavily, especially this year with their quarterback situation and the risk-averse nature of their approach. They are also facing a vastly superior Tampa Bay team this week, meaning a negative game script is likely. This team figures to be chasing points all day, further reinforcing why Gentry is on the streaming radar this week.
